Are you getting ready to get ready?

Revive Your Dreams

Lately I have been working on some ideas to help my business grow. I’ve spent hours researching and taking online classes to prepare myself.  You see.. I got caught in the trap of wanting everything to be “perfect” and kept getting ready to get ready.  I’m not sure if you have been there,  but I sure have.  I had to get out of the trap as well as stop being complacent about the urgency of my goals.

Friends and family say, get a real job, something you can count on and as much as I hate to admit, I almost took a job again for the “security”.  I went to the interview and really didn’t want to get the job…then I was offered the position. But when it came down to it, I knew that IF I went back to a job working for someone else now… my dreams and goals would wither and die.  So, I took a deep breath and jumped in.  No backup plans…just lots of action.

Yes, it will be a challenge but by declining the offer, I made myself have to succeed.  Commit or quit and quitting is NOT an option for me.  The funny thing is, as soon as I declined the offer, my mind starting thinking of positive actions I could start taking to make headway on my goal.  The fire inside me has roared back to life.

What about you… have any of you had this happen and how did you react?  I’d love to hear.

I love this Carla. Reminds me of when I got started online. Everyone closest to me was telling me to give up and get a ‘real job’…..Almost 20 years later I haven’t looked back 🙂

    Ready. Fire. Aim!!!!

Thanks Jon for the encouragement. I think a lot of us have loved ones who just don’t understand our drive for something more. I hope by telling my stories that it may help someone else have the courage to continue their journey.

Awesome post Carla! Yep…I’ve been there and done that. I learned a long time ago that if I waited until I knew all about what I was doing and how to do it, that I would never get started. What I discovered was that by jumping in and taking action, I made progress. It was not huge and I made some mistakes along the way but I learned from every mistake I made. All the best in pursuing your dreams!

I agree Ken..and thanks. I always learn more from my mistakes than success. If you are going to fail, fail fast and then try something else. Growth may be slow but once you gain momentum it will be faster than you can imagine.

  5. I was just there, doing the same thing. I found myself so wound up in getting ready that I was NEVER going to actually get there! Back on track now I think.

It happens to everyone that tries to build something at some point in the process. The ones that finally succeed realize they are in that ‘never ending loop’ and make changes.

If you never want to make any mistakes/fail, never try to do anything new. Mistakes are what powers the learning process. Failure is only pertinent if you allow it to stop you. Learn from both, and accomplish more.

As to getting a job . . . no thanks. If you want to remain where you are, get a job. If you want to build a future, create it. 🙂
